South West London Clinical Conference - April 2019
All Healthwatch organisations nationally were asked if they would be willing to support local engagement in the NHS Long Term Plan. In South West London, we took a different approach.
The South West London Health and Care Partnership
The NHS, local councils and the voluntary sector in south west London have strengthened their commitment to working together to deliver better care for local people as the South West London Health and Care Partnership.
A local approach works best, and organisations providing health and care in six London boroughs have come together as four local partnerships, acting as one team to keep people healthy and well in Sutton, Croydon, Kingston & Richmond and Merton & Wandsworth.
Clinical vision for south west London
On 30th April 2019, South West London Health & Care Partnership hosted the Clinical Conference which brought together almost 250 NHS clinicians, social care professionals, voluntary sector colleagues and other partners from across our six borough to help design the clinical vision for South West London.
Attendees were encouraged to share their experiences and expertise on six areas identified by the South West London Clinical Senate where we can make the greatest difference by working together across health and social care:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- End of life care
- Mental health
- Respiratory care
- Outpatient transformation
During the day, colleagues from six local Healthwatches shared their experiences of local people who are living with these conditions, highlighting their personal stories, their experience of service, and suggestions for improvements, to allow professionals to understand even more about what matters most to them as someone affected by these conditions.
Outpatient transformation
In Sutton, we were asked to carry out an interview about outpatient services. This is the film that was made, and then shown to professionals at the conference.

When faced with the experiences of local people living with certain conditions, we are given the opportunity to better understand what matters most to patients living with and managing their conditions. The SWL Clinical Conference gave us the perfect space to talk about our clinical vision.
