NHS Complaints Advocacy

Healthwatch Sutton Complaints Advocacy (support) provided by Advocacy for All.

Advocacy for All (AfA), is delivering the Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) in Sutton. AfA also offers a wide range of other advocacy services in the borough. The NHS complaints advocacy service is available to residents of the London Borough of Sutton who need advice and support to complain about NHS services (these may have been delivered outside of the borough).  Residents can make a complaint on behalf of themselves, somebody who has died and somebody who is not able to make a complaint for themselves.

The NHS complaints advocacy service is completely free to all eligible clients and is confidential i.e.no information about the client or the client’s enquiry will be given to third parties without the client’s clear consent. The service is independent and is not linked to any health care provider. AfA is impartial and advocates always provide a professional service.

The assistance provided by AfA advocates aims to empower clients to go through the NHS complaints procedures and will outline the options available, then support people to pursue their chosen course of action. The actions may include an informal complaint, a formal complaint or if you are still not happy, support to complain to the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman. We cannot give legal or medical advice but can signpost to choose a solicitor if the client wishes to pursue a  medical negligence case.

The NHS complaints advocacy service can assist clients with a wide variety of concerns including complaints against GPs, Dentists, Pharmacists, Opticians NHS hospitals, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Community Services and Private Healthcare Commissioned by the NHS.

The advocates can provide information to help you decide if you want to make a complaint and support you during the complaints process using a variety of methods including providing written guidance and templates, writing letters, signposting to other support organisations, making phone calls and arranging to attend complaint meetings to support clients.
